About

My research activity is mainly focused on early detection and intervention in psychosis. I am particularly interested in the epidemiology and psychopathology of people at high-risk of developing psychosis, with psychotic experiences and with first-episode psychosis. This includes clinical antecedents, neurobiological and sociodemographic characteristics. I am also keen in understanding the factors associated with diagnostic stability of first-episode psychotic disorders. As applied health researcher, an important part of my research activity is dedicated to service development within the NHS. I am the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist of the multi-award winning CAMEO Early Intervention in Psychosis Services; Lead Clinical Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) East of England; Mental Health Theme Lead for the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East of England; and Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Jesus Perez, MD, PhD is Lead Consultant Psychiatrist for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, Associate Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge and Honorary Professor of Psychiatry at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia (UEA). Jesus trained in psychiatry at Salamanca and New York Universities, before taking up a post as a Senior Clinical Research Physician in a multinational pharmaceutical company. He then became Senior Researcher in the McLean First-Episode Psychoses Project at McLean Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard University, a position that is ongoing. In 2009 Jesus became the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist in the multi-award winning CAMEO Early Intervention in Psychosis Service, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. His main academic interests are related to epidemiological, biological and health services research of firstepisode psychoses, clinical high-risk for psychosis and common mental disorders including psychotic experiences. Jesus is former Clinical Director of the East Anglia Hub of the Mental Health Research Network (MHRN) and currently is the Lead Clinical Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) in the East of England. He has recently been appointed as the Theme Lead for the NIHR Mental Health Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) in the East of England and National co-Lead for the NIHR ARC National Mental Health and Wellbeing Collaboration.
