Trend and Growth Pattern of Health Expenditure in Assam: An Analytical Study from 2000–2025

    Description / Abstract

Health expenditure has a big say in making healthcare more reachable, in boosting the healthcare systems, and also in supporting socio economic development kind of overall. In this study, we look at how health spending moved and grew in Assam, for the time span 2000–2025. The idea is to see what happened to total health expenditure, then public health expenditure, private health expenditure, and finally the per capita health expenditure in that chosen span. This research is based fully on secondary data, which we gathered from National Health Accounts reports, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare documents, the Economic Survey of Assam reports, Government Statistical Handbooks, and other related sources. For the direction of the study, we used both descriptive and analytical approaches, because it felt necessary to show patterns as well as explain them. For the analysis, different statistical methods were applied, like percentage analysis, trend analysis, and Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) too. The focus was on understanding expenditure behavior and how the growth was shaping up over the years. From the results, it appears that total health expenditure in Assam kept rising quite noticeably across the entire study period. Public healthcare spending also improved slowly, but still private expenditure kept adding a meaningful chunk to total healthcare spending. Per capita healthcare expenditure likewise showed strong movement upward, which suggests more health investment at the individual level, not just at the system level. So, the study wraps up by saying that strengthening healthcare financing mechanisms, along with increasing public investment in healthcare is key for bringing about equitable as well as sustainable healthcare development in Assam.

    Relevance and Originality

The study addresses an important issue in health financing and provides a useful Assam specific perspective over a long period. The combination of total, public, private, and per capita expenditure is relevant. However, the manuscript should clarify more precisely what new insight it contributes beyond documenting expenditure growth.

    Methodology

The use of secondary data, descriptive analysis, percentage analysis, trend analysis, and CAGR is appropriate for the stated purpose. However, the authors should explain data harmonization, inflation treatment, source selection, and the exact calculation procedures more clearly to improve reproducibility.

    Validity and Reliability

The government sources provide a useful basis, but individual observations are not sufficiently traceable to specific sources. The reported CAGR values should also be carefully recalculated and verified. Increasing expenditure should not automatically be interpreted as improved healthcare access or outcomes because these were not directly measured.

    Clarity and Structure

The overall structure is understandable, but considerable repetition occurs across the analysis, findings, and conclusion. The language also requires academic editing for grammar, precision, and formal presentation. The CAGR formula and table formatting should be checked carefully.

    Results and Analysis

The results show substantial growth in total, public, private, and per capita expenditure. The discussion would be stronger if it distinguished nominal growth from real growth and considered population, inflation, and policy changes. Claims about improved access and quality should be presented more cautiously unless supported by additional evidence.
