Abstract
Pregnancy is normal event in many women's lives. But in some mothers unexpected complications may occur which jeopardise the health conditions of the mother and the fetus. Aim The present study was carried out to explore the knowledge regarding the importance of early detection of complications during pregnancy and associate the knowledge with the demographic variables. Methods The research approach was Quantitative in nature. A descriptive research design was adopted. The study population included gravid mother at the age group of less than 25 to 35 years at selected hospital, Chennai. About 100 women were chosen using non-Probability convenience sampling technique. A interview schedule was used to assess the demographic variables and knowledge regarding the importance of early detection of complications during pregnancy. Data were analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results About 58% of the women, had moderate knowledge, 36% had inadequate knowledge and 6% had adequate knowledge. There was a statistically significant association found between educational status & the occupational status with the level of knowledge.
