Violence Against Women and Children, Volume 1: Mapping the Terrain

Conclusions and next steps.

Abstract

The closing chapter for this volume is a first step toward realizing the lofty goal of integration. We include concise summaries of each author’s views on established knowledge and its limitations, accompanied by a table that identifies methodological issues repeatedly identified throughout the chapters. The reviews offered by the authors in this volume present a strong case that the field of violence against women and children is splintered, often in some counterproductive ways. Across the forms of violence is evidence of grappling with the same definitional, design, measurement, risk, impact, treatment, and prevention issues. It is also clear from these chapters that a vibrant field of violence scholarship has emerged and is poised to go to the next level. The recommendations emerging from these chapters offer a platform for a transformation to occur. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)
