Dr. John Ehiri is a seasoned academic and public health leader with over three decades of experience in global health research, education, and administration. He serves as Chair and Professor in the Department of Health Promotion Sciences at the University of Arizona’s Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. His work reflects a strong commitment to improving public health systems in both high-income and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), particularly in areas such as maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, vaccination programs, community health systems, and health policy development. Educated in the UK and Nigeria, Dr. Ehiri holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of Glasgow, a Master of Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a BSc in Health Sciences from the University of Ife, Nigeria. His career includes significant academic appointments, including at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. At the University of Arizona, he has played key leadership roles, including Acting Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, where he was instrumental in launching online MPH programs and facilitating curriculum development across multiple concentrations. Dr. Ehiri has been deeply involved in international development and public health interventions. He has collaborated with major organizations such as the World Bank, UNICEF, and WHO. His role as an educator and mentor is equally distinguished—he has supervised numerous doctoral dissertations and master's theses, many of which were focused on improving healthcare access and services in underserved communities worldwide. In addition to his academic leadership, Dr. Ehiri has secured and managed numerous research grants and has a robust publication record that spans peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and technical reports. His scholarship often focuses on operational research aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of health programs, especially in areas such as immunization coverage, reproductive health, and community-based interventions. His work has influenced health policy development and implementation strategies across various countries. He is widely recognized for integrating research, teaching, and community engagement to address complex public health challenges. His teaching spans environmental health, health systems, epidemiology, and program evaluation. His global orientation and ability to bridge the gap between academia and field practice have made him a respected figure in international public health.
