Frequency, explanatory models and consequences of sexual violence against children and adolescents: Objectives of the Germany-wide MiKADO project

Abstract

Sexual abuse of children and young people can cause significant psychological damage to the victims and have significant social consequences. For this reason, research into the conditions under which sexual abuse occurs is of great interest. As part of a joint project funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the frequency of sexual abuse, its consequences for the victims, the prevalence and etiology of paedophilic tendencies and the influence of the so-called new media (e.g. the Internet) on sexual abuse are to be investigated in more detail. The stated aim is to develop approaches to prevent such attacks. The acronym "MiKADO" stands for the first letters of the project goals: abuse of children: etiology, dark figure and victims.
