Assistant Professor in Chemistry

Guru Nanak College(Autonomous) · August 2016 - Present
Working as an assistant professor (organic chemistry) in the Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak College, Budhlada, MANSA, affiliated with Punjabi University Patiala, from 30th August 2016 onwards. Practical Exposure: Named reactions such as the Strecker reaction, Hantzsch reaction, Biginelli reaction, Knoevenagel reaction, Michael reaction, Doebner decarboxylation, Perkin reaction, Vilsmeir-Haack reaction, Claisen rearrangement, and Claisen-Schmidt reaction. Catalyst exploration such as LiBr, RuCl₃, BiCl₃, GaCl₃, CdI₂, CuSO₄•5H₂O, p-TSA, alum, triflates, ionic liquids, and organocatalysts. Reduction with LAH, NaBH₄, and organo-reductors. Synthetic study of benzopyrans (viz., 3-formylchromones and their derivatives), rhodanine, and 2,4-thiazolidinedione. Synthesis and use of ionic liquids (triethylammonium acetate (TEAA) and 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([bmim][HSO₄]) in many organic transformations, such as Claisen-Schmidt condensation, Knoevenagel condensation, Hantzsch reaction, Biginelli reaction, and in the synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes, bis(indolyl)methanes, and chalcones. Green chemistry-based organic synthesis and functional group transformations.
