Mr. Chandrasekhara (Samba) Mokkapati is an accomplished Director of Software Engineering with extensive experience in leading large-scale technical teams, managing over 100 resources, and overseeing a budget exceeding $10 million. He specializes in platform engineering and site reliability engineering (SRE) within multi-billion-dollar retail enterprises, demonstrating expertise in delivering scalable, high-performing systems. His career at Macy’s has been marked by leadership in transforming and delivering Pricing Systems and Merchandising Site Reliability Engineering, ensuring seamless operations across all selling channels, including stores, mobile apps, and customer service centers. As Director, he is responsible for the next-generation Pricing System, which serves 500+ buyers and processes 50,000 transactions per second with a 30ms response time, while also mentoring engineering teams and promoting innovation. Previously, as Senior Manager, he spearheaded the development of a Unified Price Management System, ensuring a single-source price authoring platform across Macy’s divisions. His tenure as Manager of Software Engineering focused on optimizing pricing services, achieving transaction speeds of 30,000 transactions per second while reducing technical debt and simplifying Macy’s technology footprint. Before that, he played a key role as a Staff Software Engineer, designing containerized solutions and educating teams on microservices. Prior to Macy’s, Mr. Mokkapati was Lead DevOps Engineer at JCPenney, where he revolutionized CI/CD frameworks, supporting 200+ builds and 300+ deployments per day, while also leading JCPenney’s cloud transformation to AWS and GCP, saving over $15 million. He also played a crucial role in migrating critical services from RDBMS to NoSQL and implemented a high-availability persistence storage solution for real-time inventory tracking across 800+ stores. Earlier in his career, as Lead Automation Engineer at Macy’s, he automated infrastructure provisioning, optimized JBoss deployments, and managed incident response for Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s eCommerce platforms. His technical acumen extends back to his tenure as Senior Middleware Administrator at Deluxe Corporation, where he streamlined build and deployment processes with Jenkins and automated WebSphere provisioning. His career began as a Java Developer at Container Centralen, where he contributed to eCommerce application development and database maintenance. Mr. Mokkapati holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and Information Technology from JNTU and is highly skilled in DevOps, cloud architectures (AWS, GCP), CI/CD, NoSQL, Docker, open-source technologies, and global team management.
