Examining The Study Habit of Single Parent Children and Their Academic Performance

Abstract

Background: Single-parent households are increasingly common, and their impact on children's development has been a subject of extensive research. While single parents often face unique challenges, including financial strain and increased household responsibilities, their children's academic outcomes are not universally negative. This study aims to investigate the relationship between study habits and academic performance in children from single-parent families. Method: A sample of 150 students from single-parent households studying in class X was recruited from various schools in Garo Hills region. Data were drawn by using scale on study habit and academic report card were used to generate data for the study. To accomplish this, the researchers employed survey method as a research design Results: No significant differences were found in overall study habits between children from single-parent and two-parent households. However, some specific study habits, such as time management and organizational skills, showed a trend towards being slightly lower in the single-parent group. No significant differences were found in overall academic performance between the two groups. Relationship between Study Habits and Academic Performance: Strong positive correlations were found between study habits and academic performance in both groups, indicating that effective study habits are crucial for academic success regardless of family structure.

Relevance and Originality

This research makes a valuable contribution by examining the link between study habits and academic performance in children from single-parent households. By focusing on the Garo Hills region, it provides fresh insights into an important topic. The study challenges common perceptions about single-parent families and highlights the significance of study habits in academic success, making it a meaningful addition to educational research.

Methodology

The study adopts a well-structured survey method with a carefully selected sample of 150 students. The use of standardized scales for study habits and academic report cards ensures reliable data collection. While the methodology is strong, incorporating additional qualitative elements, such as student interviews or teacher perspectives, could offer deeper insights into learning behaviors.

Validity & Reliability

The research findings are well-supported, reinforcing the importance of study habits over family structure in academic achievement. The strong correlation between study habits and performance adds credibility to the results. Expanding the study across different regions or including more diverse socio-economic backgrounds could enhance the generalizability of the conclusions.

Clarity and Structure

The research is clearly written and well-organized, allowing for easy comprehension of key findings. The logical flow from background to results ensures coherence. Adding more details on the slight differences in time management and organizational skills could further enrich the discussion and provide useful takeaways for educators.

Result Analysis

The study successfully interprets its findings, emphasizing the critical role of study habits in academic success. While there are minor variations in specific habits, the overall conclusion that study habits significantly impact performance is well-supported. Offering recommendations on how to improve study habits in students from different backgrounds could further strengthen the research’s practical implications.
