Integrating Edge Computing with CI/CD Pipelines for Infrastructure Optimization in Large-Scale Retail Operations
Abstract
The integration of edge computing with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines presents a significant opportunity for optimizing infrastructure in large-scale retail operations. Edge computing, which brings computation and data storage closer to the sources of data, offers reduced latency, improved bandwidth, and enhanced real-time processing capabilities. By incorporating edge computing into CI/CD pipelines, retail enterprises can achieve greater agility, scalability, and resilience in their infrastructure management. This research explores the benefits, challenges, and best practices associated with integrating edge computing with CI/CD pipelines in the retail sector. The methodology involves qualitative case studies, quantitative performance metrics, and expert interviews. Key findings reveal that edge computing enhances real-time data processing, reduces network congestion, and improves customer experience by delivering faster and more reliable services. However, challenges such as data security, infrastructure complexity, and the need for specialized skills must be addressed. The contributions of this study provide actionable insights for retail organizations aiming to optimize their infrastructure and achieve operational excellence. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research and practical applications of edge computing in retail CI/CD pipelines.
