About Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Trichy
Urumu Seshachalam Chettiar, the revered Founder of our College, is a noble man. He has bequeathed his property to poor children. He started an orphanage for poor children and his service for the people is highly laudable. His orphanage was slowly de le is highly laudable. His orphanage was slowly developed into a Middle School which began to function from 1946. Later on, the Middle School grew into High School from 1951. The Founder was philanthropic, benevolent selfless. Mrs. Urumu Dhanalakshmi Ammal helped her husband in all his endeavours. Hence the College bears her name. We are celebrating our Founder’s Day every year on 17th November in memory of our beloved Founder. Our Founder constituted a committee to look after all those properties that belong to educational institutions. Our College is a part of Bharathidasan University. On an auspicious day on which the Kumbabisheka of Akilandeswari Temple was held, our College was opened by Jagathguru Sri Shankaracharya Jeyandra Swamigal. Our College located away from the town amidst rural surroundings, satisfies the necessities of the needy people of Thiruverambur and Kattur Villages. Our College functioned in S.I.T premises for the first two years, 1970-72. During the third year, it began to function in its own buildings in at Kattur. This College which started with Pre-University course had introduced B.A. (Economics) during the Second year. To realize the obligations of the constitution of India by up lifting and strengthening the downtrodden and marginalized providing relevant higher education to raise social standards. To strengthen the nation through value based education. To liberate women by offering education to all women applicants. To provide all round personality development.
