About Siteman Cancer Center (SCC)
Our specialized oncologists, surgeons, research scientists, nurses, radiologists and cancer professionals work together in multidisciplinary teams to decode both common and rare cancers while developing cutting-edge technologies that make treatment s ng cutting-edge technologies that make treatment safer and more effective. Siteman Cancer Center also has one of the nation’s largest clinical research programs; which offers innovative, therapeutic treatments for patients with cancers that were previously considered untreatable. Each of Siteman’s Cancer Centers in the St. Louis metro area is staffed with the world class doctors, scientists and professionals who make sure their patients get the comprehensive care they need close to home, no matter where that is. Just as important as our commitment to the highest level of care for our patients and their families is our commitment to improving the health of the entire community. Siteman Cancer Center’s robust outreach programs are dedicated to researching and reducing cancer disparities, educating policymakers on how they can help lower the cancer burden and providing prevention resources and health screenings to the public. At Siteman Cancer Center, our passion for science and service provides our patients, families and community a national leader in every phase of the cancer journey. We work hard to promote, develop, and put in place programs, policies, and changes in healthcare practice that lower the number of cancer cases, improve health outcomes, and advocate for equity in health across diverse communities. Our prevention strategies are designed to promote healthy lifestyles to reduce cancer risk, to give people the information and skills to take steps to reduce risk, and to identify the steps people and healthcare providers can take to reduce cancer risk and improve health outcomes. Learning from and working with our community partners, we promote access to prevention education and cancer screening tests across the cancer center’s outreach area (catchment). We also work to better understand the needs of the community, and the barriers to healthcare access and health behaviors – which informs and fosters research within the cancer center. We invest in training, mentoring, and supporting the next generations of cancer researchers and those in the cancer care workforce, including developing future leaders who represent the diversity in our region. We arrange training in cancer research as early as high school, extending to undergraduate students, graduate and medical students, postdoctoral scholars, and university faculty who are early in their careers. We are committed to creating a culture where researchers, staff, and patients of diverse backgrounds feel – and are – valued. Our work toward diversity, equity, and inclusion is focused on developing a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. Among other wide-ranging benefits, this will help foster innovation and the development of comprehensive cancer treatment strategies. To prevent cancer in the community and transform cancer patient care through scientific discovery. Our goal is to eliminate and prevent cancer through world-class science. We are dedicated to providing the best patient care by combining cutting-edge research, new and innovative treatments, and compassionate patient-centered care focused on patients’ needs and desires. We will develop new and more effective cancer therapies by focusing on unlocking the mysteries that allow tumors to grow and resist treatment –and how the body and the environment in which we live impact cancer development. Our team strives to incorporate the latest scientific advances into innovative treatment trials and studies, ensuring that patients benefit from the newest and most effective cancer therapies available. ...view more
