The Influence of Social Media on Environmental Advocacy and Climate Change Communication
Abstract
Social media platforms are now a potent means of communication to promote environmental causes and raise awareness. The present paper aims to discuss the influence of social media on environmental advocacy and climate change communication in Punjab, Pakistan. The approach taken was a quantitative research design, a survey method for collecting primary data from social media users. The data collection process was carried out by using an online survey on Google Forms platforms through various social media groups. SPSS-23 was used to analyze 250 valid responses. In this paper, descriptive statistics, reliability tests, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were used to analyze the relationships among social media use, environmental advocacy, climate change awareness, and climate change communication. The findings demonstrate how social media can be used to create environmental awareness and to communicate climate change messages. There were significant and positive relationships between the use of social media and environmental advocacy, climate change awareness, and public involvement in environmental campaigns. Also, regression analysis shows that social media campaigns have a very strong effect on environmental advocacy and climate change communication among users. The findings indicate that social media was a valuable tool to convey environmental awareness, get the public involved, and promote climate-related conversations in the Punjab, Pakistan. The results of this study are very valuable for policymakers, environmental action groups, and communication professionals when planning their social media campaign for environmental advocacy and climate change education.
