Status of Heavy Metals in Soil Municipal Solid Waste Dumping Site Soils of Balasore District Of Odisha
Abstract
With the initiation of industrial revolution, exploration of various resources arises which later on produces waste and polluted the local environment. The main intent of the present study is to evaluate the availability of heavy metals in soil due to the dumping of municipal solid waste (MSW). In the present study four heavy metals i.e., Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn had chosen for estimating the soil heavy metal contamination in four different dumping sites i.e., Balasore Sadar, Soro NAC, Nilagiri NAC, and Jaleswar NAC. In Jaleswar NAC maximum heavy metal concentration was found in the case of Cu (0.71 ppm), Fe (i.e., 19.48 ppm), Mn (4.35 ppm), and Zn (3.72 ppm). The lowest heavy metal concentration was found in Nilagiri NAC (0.06 ppm in Cu; 1.62 ppm in Fe; 1.05 ppm in Mn and 0.11 ppm in Zn).
