OXIDATION OF AROMATIC ANIL BY PYRAZINIUM CHLOROCHROMATE

Abstract

Oxidation of aromatic anil by pyrazinium chlorochromate [PzCC] in water and acetic acid medium has been studied under pseudo first order condition. The reaction shows unit order dependence each with respect to oxidant. The reaction with respect to substrate and hydrogen ion concentration are found to be fractional order. The reaction rate decreases with increasing the concentration of Mn2+ ions. The reaction does not induce the polymerization of acrylonitrile. A possible mechanism has been proposed in the formation of benzaldehyde and azobenzene
