NAVIGATING THE VIRTUAL PUBLIC SPHERE: THE RISING PERIL OF SEXTORTION
Abstract
The alarming phenomenon of Sextortion has emerged as a pressing issue in the contemporary digital landscape, characterized by its extensive prevalence and the susceptibility of its victims. This study will examine the operational methods of the crime and the susceptibility of the victims to such offences, influenced by social engineering techniques. Additional factors such as poverty, illiteracy and human trafficking also contribute towards the initiation of the crime. This study will undertake a comparative analysis of the operational methods and the legislative frameworks of various nations, highlighting the essential measures required at this critical juncture and addressing the ongoing crisis that India faces concerning Sextortion, which poses a significant threat to the Women in the country.
