Carbon Footprint Reduction Strategies Using Digital Twin Integration Strategy
Abstract
The manufacturing sector, governments, and researchers are increasingly focusing on innovative?technologies to address some challenges, particularly in the face of climate change mitigation, aiming for net-zero emission targets. Digital Twin (DT) technology, recognized as an indispensable enabler for energy savings, waste reduction, and carbon footprint abatement, is one such technology. This chapter explores how DTs can be deployed across sectors as a tool for planning carbon footprint reduction. It reviews the basic principles and key integration models of DTs, from data integration to?integrated applications, and provides some typical real-world cases, associated problems, and future trends. DT technology offers a more sustainable, information-based,?and robust way for transforming industries and urban systems.
