Abstract
Thermalbarriercoatings,orTBCsforshort,aresuperiorceramiccoatingsthatareapplieddirectlytothemetallicsurfacesofgasturbinebladesandotherenginetypes,includingdieselandaerospaceengines.Thiskindofthermalbarriersystemismeanttoinsulatethedifferentpartsfromtheheatofthegasesthatpassthroughthem.Turbineefficiencyandperformancewillriseautomaticallyifthermalconductivityisreducedandinsulationisusedtoachievethemaximumthermalgradient.TBCsaretwo-layercoatingsmadeupofaninsulatingceramiclayerthatiscommonlyreferredtoasaninsulatinglayerandanoxidationandcorrosionresistantlayerknownasabondcoat.
