Maayan Zuniga
About
Maayan Zuniga is a driven and passionate medical student currently studying at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, pursuing her Doctor of Medicine (MD). With a comprehensive background in clinical practice, medical research, and emergency care, she is building a diverse skill set that positions her as a future leader in the healthcare field.
Maayan’s professional journey includes a blend of hands-on clinical experience and rigorous academic research. Currently, she works as a Medical Assistant at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, where she provides patient care and assists in clinical procedures. In addition, Maayan is gaining valuable research experience at the same institution as a Research Assistant, where she supports innovative medical studies that aim to improve patient care and treatment outcomes.
Before her current roles, Maayan also served as a Field Medic with Medical Emergency Training Inc., where she was responsible for providing emergency medical care during excursions in remote locations, as well as on the beaches of Tel Aviv. Her fieldwork has given her an extensive understanding of Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and wound care, reinforcing her capacity to manage high-pressure medical situations.
Maayan’s experience extends beyond clinical work. She has contributed to several research projects, including her role as a Blood Bank Laboratory Technician at Magen David Adom in Israel, where she prepared and separated blood components for distribution. Furthermore, she worked at Beilinson Innovation as a Research Assistant, where she assisted in cutting-edge medical technologies and treatments, blending her scientific knowledge with practical applications.
Her earlier experiences also include assisting in cancer research at Sheba Medical Center in Israel, where she helped implement delayed contrast extravasation MRI technology to detect early-stage breast cancer, making a significant contribution to the development of non-invasive diagnostic tools.
Throughout her academic career, Maayan has excelled academically, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology from the University of Portland, with minors in Chemistry and Neuroscience. Her commitment to excellence extended to her involvement in various academic societies, such as Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and sports teams like Women’s Club Soccer, demonstrating her well-rounded nature.
Maayan’s dedication is evident in her certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and her work as a volunteer in various hospital settings, including Oregon Health & Science University, where she assisted with post-operative patient care.
As she continues her studies and clinical training at Tel Aviv University, Maayan Zuniga is poised to become a skilled physician, contributing to both clinical and research advancements in the medical field.
