About
Ke-Hai Yuan is a distinguished scholar and Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Notre Dame. With a Ph.D. in Mathematics (specializing in Statistics) from UCLA, he has built an impressive academic career spanning decades. His expertise lies in advanced statistical methodologies, particularly in their application to psychology and social sciences. He obtained his M.S. and B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Beijing Institute of Technology before pursuing his doctorate, which laid the foundation for his extensive work in the field. Since joining the University of Notre Dame in 1998, Ke-Hai Yuan has held several positions, including O’Neill III Associate Professorship. His contributions are also marked by visiting appointments at globally renowned institutions, such as Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Renmin University of China, Osaka University, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. These engagements reflect his international academic influence. Furthermore, prior to his time at Notre Dame, Yuan served as a Statistician at UCLA and Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of North Texas. Yuan is deeply involved in professional services in his field. His editorial roles include Associate Editor of Psychometrika and membership on editorial boards of prominent journals like Educational and Psychological Measurement, Structural Equation Modeling, and Psychological Methods, among others. These responsibilities underscore his reputation as a thought leader in statistical psychology and psychometrics. Yuan has also reviewed grant proposals for respected organizations, such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Institute of Education Sciences, solidifying his influence in shaping the research landscape. His research spans numerous topics, including structural equation modeling, factor analysis, multilevel modeling, growth curve modeling, mediation and moderation analysis, and missing data methods. Yuan has extensively worked on statistical computation, robust methods, and approaches to tackle challenges such as nonnormal distributions and non-ignorable nonresponses. His methodological innovations, such as advanced estimation techniques and software development, cater to the complexities of analyzing social and behavioral science data. Yuan’s contributions have earned him several honors, including the prestigious Raymond B. Cattell Award for Early-Career Outstanding Multivariate Research. He has secured numerous grants to support his projects, notably from NSF and other organizations, for initiatives ranging from the analysis of cognitive aging to advancements in structural equation modeling. Apart from research, Yuan is an accomplished educator, teaching courses in experimental psychology, psychometric theory, multivariate statistics, factor analysis, and computational statistics, among others. His mentorship has nurtured a generation of scholars equipped with cutting-edge statistical skills. In essence, Ke-Hai Yuan exemplifies excellence in statistical research, interdisciplinary applications, and pedagogy. His global academic engagements, editorial contributions, and groundbreaking research have made him an influential figure in psychology and statistics, advancing both theoretical and applied knowledge in these fields.
