About

I have research expertise in airway cell biology, lung diseases such as asthma,COPD, acute lung injury, innate immunity, gene regulation and cancer biology. I have strong interest in building translational research program involving effects of environmental toxicant / pollutant exposure on human health with special interest in lung and heart diseases. Currently I am monitoring in vitro regulatory toxicity studies (Non-GLP & GLP) at extrenal CROs. Research Experience - Basic and translational research focused on inflammatory lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, respiratory infections. Antimicrobial protein/ gene regulation in airway epithelium. Preclinical drug development (in vitro ADMET studies) < 2 yrs , Regulatory in vitro toxicity studies <1 yr. Effects of environmental toxicant exposures (cigarette smoke, ambient fine particles and metal oxide nanoparticles) on human health with regards to lung and heart disease (>8 yrs). Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) studies using primary tumour cells and mouse xenograft (PDX) models (4 yrs). Specialties: Airway innate immunity, allergic asthma and infection, Airway cell biology, cell signalling, transcriptional regulation of genes, Acute lung injury, Oncology (solid tumour), Human aortic endothelial cell biology study with fluid shear stress and environmental toxicant exposures. Regulatory in vitro toxicology.

Cigarette Smoke Induces Human Epidermal Receptor 2–Dependent Changes in Epithelial Permeability

The airway epithelium constitutes a protective barrier against inhaled insults, such as viruses, bacteria, and toxic fumes, including cigarette smoke (CS). Maintenance of bronchial epithelia...

HER2 activation results in β-catenin-dependent changes in pulmonary epithelial permeability

The receptor tyrosine kinase human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) is known to regulate pulmonary epithelial barrier function; however, the mechanisms behind this effect remain uni...
