Dr. Gururaj H. L. is an esteemed academic and researcher with a distinguished career in the field of computer science and engineering. Currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Technology at Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, Dr. Gururaj has accumulated over 14 years of teaching and research experience, guiding students at both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels. His academic journey has been marked by excellence, with a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, which he completed in 2019.
Dr. Gururaj's academic expertise is vast, with a focus on several cutting-edge areas including Blockchain Technology, Cyber Security, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), Ad-hoc Networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Mining, and Cloud Computing. He has made significant contributions to these fields, publishing over 160 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. He has also been involved in editorial roles for reputed journals, contributing to special issues and overseeing the publication of many scientific works. His research interests have led him to secure one Australian patent, one Indian design patent, and five Indian copyrights, marking his innovative work in the realm of technology.
An active member of global professional communities, Dr. Gururaj is a Senior Member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), two of the most prominent international organizations in the field of computer science. He was honored as an ACM Distinguished Speaker for the 2018–2021 term and has delivered over 500 technical talks worldwide, sharing his insights on emerging technologies like blockchain and cyber security. He was a keynote speaker at prestigious conferences such as the Update Europe Conference (2020) and the 8th International Conference on Machine Learning and Technology (ICMLT) in the USA (2024). These engagements highlight his reputation as a thought leader in his field.
In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Gururaj is deeply committed to mentoring and guiding the next generation of computer science professionals. He has been recognized for his exceptional project guidance, receiving the Best Project Guide award for four consecutive years (2014-2017) at Malnad College of Engineering. He has also been instrumental in organizing conferences and seminars, securing grants from various Indian governmental bodies such as the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB-DST), CSIR, and AICTE. His leadership extends beyond the classroom as he serves as the Faculty Sponsor of the MITB ACM Student Chapter and the Community Leader of IndiaClouds, a global cloud computing community.
His professional and leadership roles include being a member of the advisory committee for the Cyber Security Council of India and serving as a subject expert at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) in Mysuru, Karnataka. Dr. Gururaj’s expertise has also been recognized by organizations like IBM, where he earned certifications in Cyber Security Tools and Blockchain Essentials, further enhancing his proficiency in the domain of digital technologies.
Beyond his academic responsibilities, Dr. Gururaj has a strong track record in the corporate world. He has worked as a freelance trainer for RminesHR Consultancy, where he imparts knowledge on cloud computing and other cutting-edge technological advancements. His passion for educating and enabling digital transformation is reflected in his leadership of the IndiaClouds community, which facilitates the adoption of cloud computing technologies across businesses in India.
