Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin (ZFV)

Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin was a major scientific journal established in 1954 to publish research in veterinary science. It quickly became an important platform for disseminating knowledge on animal health, disease diagnosis, and biological research related to veterinary medicine. Due to the expanding scope of veterinary science, the journal was later divided into specialized series to better address different subfields. Series A focused on general veterinary medicine, clinical studies, and pathology. Series B emphasized infectious diseases, microbiology, virology, and epidemiology, particularly zoonotic diseases affecting both animals and humans. Series C concentrated on anatomical sciences, including histology and embryology of animals. The journal published original research articles, reviews, and short communications, contributing significantly to veterinary science in Europe and internationally. It played a key role in advancing knowledge in animal disease control, diagnostics, and comparative biology. Over time, the Zentralblatt series evolved into more modern international journals, reflecting the globalization of veterinary research. Despite its discontinuation in its original form, it remains an important historical source and continues to be cited in contemporary veterinary and biomedical literature.
