Journal Descriptions

Zeitschrift für Morphologie und Anthropologie is a historical German scientific journal dedicated to the study of human morphology and anthropology. It played an important role in the early development of physical anthropology as a scientific discipline during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The journal focused on the anatomical structure, variation, and evolutionary development of the human species. Its scope included studies in human anatomy, comparative morphology, skeletal analysis, population variation, and evolutionary anthropology. Researchers published detailed measurements, morphological descriptions, and comparative studies of human and primate anatomy. The journal also contributed to early discussions on human evolution, biological diversity, and classification of human populations based on physical traits. During its time, it served as a key academic platform for anthropologists, anatomists, and biologists in German-speaking countries. However, with the advancement of modern anthropology and the shift toward genetics, molecular biology, and ethical research frameworks, the journal gradually lost prominence and was eventually discontinued or absorbed into broader scientific publications.
