Weltwirtschaft (Weltwirtschaft)
Journal Descriptions
Weltwirtschaft is a historical German economics journal that played an important role in the development of international economic research in the early 20th century. Established in 1913 and associated with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the journal focused on global economic systems, international trade, finance, and macroeconomic policy. It provided a scholarly platform for analyzing world economic trends, including trade relations, currency systems, economic development, and globalization processes. The journal later evolved into Weltwirtschaftliches Archiv, which became one of the most influential journals in international economics. Over time, this publication lineage was renamed and modernized into the Review of World Economics, which continues to be published today by Springer Nature. Throughout its history, the journal series has been known for publishing high-quality theoretical and empirical research from leading economists worldwide. Its contributions have significantly influenced academic understanding of global trade dynamics, financial integration, and economic policy coordination. The journal remains historically important because it helped establish international economics as a distinct academic discipline. Even though the original title “Weltwirtschaft” is no longer in active publication, its legacy continues through its successor journal, which remains a respected source in global economic research.
