Journal Descriptions

The Counsellor is a scholarly academic journal published by the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON). The journal serves as an important platform for the dissemination of research findings, professional experiences, and theoretical discussions in the field of guidance and counselling. It was established to promote the development of counselling practice and research in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles that address a wide range of issues related to counselling and educational psychology. These include school counselling, career guidance, vocational development, mental health counselling, family and marriage counselling, rehabilitation counselling, and psychosocial development. The publication also encourages research that focuses on counselling interventions, assessment techniques, counselling ethics, and professional training for counsellors. Through the publication of empirical studies, conceptual analyses, and conference papers presented at national meetings of the Counselling Association of Nigeria, The Counsellor contributes to the professional growth of counsellors, educators, and psychologists. The journal also serves as a forum for discussing contemporary challenges affecting individuals, students, families, and communities, particularly within the African context. Overall, The Counsellor plays an important role in advancing counselling education, strengthening professional standards, and promoting research-based counselling practices that support personal development, educational success, and mental well-being.
