Journal Descriptions

The Rwanda Law Journal (RLJ) is a peer-reviewed open-access academic journal dedicated to advancing legal scholarship in Rwanda and beyond. Established in 2018 and published by the Institute of Legal Practice and Development in collaboration with the University of Rwanda, the journal serves as a platform for critical analysis of legal issues affecting Rwanda and comparative legal systems worldwide. It publishes high-quality scholarly works, including lead articles, case notes, and commentaries that address contemporary legal challenges in areas such as constitutional law, human rights, criminal justice, and international law. The journal follows a rigorous peer-review process to ensure academic integrity, originality, and relevance of published research. RLJ aims to bridge the gap between legal theory and practice by encouraging contributions from academics, legal practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. It also promotes legal reform and the development of Rwanda’s legal system by fostering scholarly debate and evidence-based analysis. The journal is indexed in African Journals Online (AJOL), enhancing its visibility and accessibility to a global audience. By supporting interdisciplinary and comparative research, the Rwanda Law Journal contributes significantly to legal education, research capacity building, and the advancement of justice systems in Rwanda and across Africa.
