Revue d'Histoire Moderne & Contemporaine (RHMC)
Journal Descriptions
The editorial objective of the Revue d'histoire moderne & contemporaine is to contribute to the dissemination of recent historical research carried out in France and abroad on the modern and contemporary worlds (16th-20th centuries). Its specificity lies in the ongoing dialogue it has established between the modern and contemporary periods. It strives to avoid reductive compartmentalization, integrating the contributions of the most recent work without jargon or esotericism. It runs counter to a certain tendency towards hyper-specialization, which splits up knowledge and compartmentalizes perspectives: the objective of synthesis remains a condition for the intelligibility of the past. Founded in 1899, RHMC is today the leading scientific journal of reference for the modern and contemporary eras. Each quarter, it publishes original contributions by French and foreign historians. As a forum for dialogue and debate, this top-ranking international journal enables us to take stock of advances and problems in current historiography. RHMC* is published with the support of the Centre National du Livre and the CNRS (Institut des Sciences Humaines et Sociales). La Revue d'histoire moderne & contemporaine is the fruit of a prestigious heritage. Founded in 1899, it has been an integral part of the organization of the profession of historian, and has played a major role in the dissemination of historical knowledge. As we know it today, it is the result of a transformation carried out in 1954 under the direction of Charles-Hippolythe Pouthas.
