Journal Descriptions
Research Review of the Institute of African Studies is a long-established peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon. It provides a scholarly platform for research on Africa across a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines, including anthropology, history, sociology, political studies, and cultural analysis. The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, and research notes that contribute new knowledge or critically reassess earlier studies on African societies, cultures, and development issues. It encourages interdisciplinary scholarship that deepens understanding of African realities from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The journal is particularly known for promoting African-centered research and supporting academic discourse within and beyond the continent. All submissions undergo editorial review and must meet academic standards of originality, relevance, and methodological rigor. The journal typically appears twice a year and also accepts short research reports and book reviews. It serves as an important outlet for African scholars and international researchers working on African topics, making it one of the foundational academic journals in African studies published from Ghana.
