Zambezia: The Journal of Humanities of the University of Zimbabwe (ZJHUZ)
Journal Descriptions
Zambezia: The Journal of Humanities of the University of Zimbabwe is a peer reviewed academic journal established in 1969 to promote scholarly research in the humanities within Zimbabwe and the broader African region. Published by the University of Zimbabwe, the journal served as a major platform for intellectual discourse in fields such as history, sociology, education, literature, law, and cultural studies. The journal was issued biannually and aimed to encourage interdisciplinary research and critical engagement with social, cultural, and political issues affecting Southern Africa. In addition to standard research articles, Zambezia also published review essays, lectures, and occasional monograph supplements covering diverse academic disciplines. Its content often focused on regional themes, particularly South Central Africa, while also accommodating studies of broader international relevance. The journal played an important role in documenting African scholarship during the late 20th century and contributed significantly to the development of humanities research in the region. Although highly respected historically, the journal appears to have become inactive or ceased regular publication in the early 2000s. Nevertheless, it remains an important archival source for humanities research in Africa.
