Journal Descriptions

The Psychiatric Bulletin was a peer-reviewed medical journal published by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (United Kingdom). It focused on clinical psychiatry, psychiatric practice, mental health services, training, and policy-related issues. The journal served as a practical platform for psychiatrists, particularly in the UK, by publishing original research, audit reports, case discussions, service evaluations, and professional commentary. The journal was officially established in 1988, although its roots go back earlier as a newsletter and supplement of psychiatric professional communications. It aimed to bridge the gap between academic psychiatry and everyday clinical practice. Over time, the journal expanded its scope to include topics such as mental health law, clinical governance, service development, education and training, and psychiatric ethics. The Psychiatric Bulletin was published monthly and maintained peer-review standards to ensure scientific and clinical quality. In 2014, it was renamed “The Psychiatrist”, and in 2015 it evolved into “BJPsych Bulletin”, which continues today as its successor journal published by Cambridge University Press. The journal is indexed in major databases such as Scopus and PubMed Central (in its later form).
