Journal Descriptions

Poland's Demographic Past (PDP) is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the study of historical populations and demographic processes in Poland and neighboring regions. Established in 2017, it is one of the leading journals in Central Europe specializing in historical demography. The journal is closely associated with the Committee on the History of Demographic and Social Structures of the Polish Academy of Sciences and provides a forum for interdisciplinary research on population history. The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, discussions, and methodological studies concerning demographic structures, fertility, mortality, migration, family history, and social and occupational groups in historical societies. It particularly encourages studies based on large-scale individual statistical records and source-critical approaches. PDP also welcomes contributions from related disciplines such as social and economic history, geography, anthropology, statistics, computer science, paleodemography, and the history of medicine when they contribute to understanding demographic processes in the past. As an open-access journal, PDP provides free access to all published content and is indexed in major scholarly databases including Scopus, DOAJ, ERIH PLUS, and CEEOL, increasing the international visibility of research published in the journal.
