Oral Microbiology and Immunology (OMI)

Oral Microbiology and Immunology was an international peer reviewed scientific journal established in 1986 to advance research on the microbiological and immunological aspects of oral health and disease. Published initially by Munksgaard Publishers and later by John Wiley & Sons (Wiley-Blackwell), the journal became one of the leading publications dedicated to oral infectious diseases and host immune responses. It published high quality original research articles, review papers, short communications, and experimental studies addressing the fundamental and clinical aspects of oral microbiology and immunology. The journal covered the biology of oral microorganisms, microbial ecology, dental plaque biofilms, periodontal pathogens, dental caries, oral fungal and viral infections, salivary microbiology, molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, mucosal immunity, inflammatory pathways, and host–microbe interactions. It also emphasized translational research aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral diseases through advances in microbiology and immunology. The journal was indexed in major biomedical databases, including MEDLINE and PubMed, and gained an international reputation for publishing rigorous scientific research in oral infectious diseases. In 2010, the journal was renamed Molecular Oral Microbiology, reflecting the growing importance of molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, and advanced microbial research techniques in oral health sciences.
