Journal Descriptions
mSphere is an interdisciplinary, peer‑reviewed scientific journal published by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), one of the world’s oldest and largest life‑science societies. First launched with its inaugural issue in late 2015 / early 2016, mSphere was created to serve a broad “pan‑microbial” audience by publishing outstanding research across the range of microbial sciences. Its scope integrates fundamental microbiological insights with systems‑level understanding, encompassing work on bacterial, viral, fungal, and archaeal biology and their interactions with hosts and environments. As an open‑access journal, mSphere enables free global access to its published content, promoting wide dissemination and impact of scientific discoveries. The journal operates on a bimonthly publication schedule, delivering high‑quality research, rapid communications, and insightful perspectives every two months. mSphere accepts contributions that advance knowledge in microbial ecology, genetics, evolution, metabolism, pathogenesis, immunology, and molecular microbiology, as well as interdisciplinary studies that link microbiology with computational and systems biology approaches. Through a rigorous peer‑review process and commitment to editorial excellence, mSphere provides a forum for scientists to share novel findings that deepen understanding of microbial systems and their influence on human health, agriculture, ecology, and biotechnology. Its editorial board comprises recognized experts who uphold scientific integrity and relevance, making mSphere a respected venue for impactful microbial research.
