Journal Descriptions

Modern Africa: Politics, History and Society is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal established in 2018 and published by the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic. The journal is issued twice a year and provides a multidisciplinary platform for scholarly research on Africa and African societies. It is published in English and welcomes contributions from researchers, academics, policymakers, and practitioners working across a broad range of disciplines. The journal focuses on contemporary political, social, economic, historical, and cultural developments across the African continent. Its editorial policy promotes interdisciplinary approaches that combine perspectives from political science, history, sociology, anthropology, international relations, gender studies, environmental studies, and development studies. The journal aims to foster deeper understanding of African realities through rigorous empirical and theoretical research. Modern Africa follows a double-anonymous peer-review process and operates under a diamond open-access model, meaning authors and readers are not charged publication or access fees. The journal is indexed in several recognized databases, including Scopus, DOAJ, ERIH Plus, and EBSCO. By encouraging critical and innovative scholarship, Modern Africa contributes significantly to global debates on African politics, history, society, and development.
