Le philosophoire (LP)
Journal Descriptions
This journal is an independent and pluralist journal of general philosophy. It encourages philosophical problematization and gives priority to research in which the history of philosophy is a means and not an end. Le Philosophoire is a magazine of general philosophy (open to all fields of philosophy), independent (not affiliated with any institution) and pluralist (not attached to any school of thought). It is a journal of research (rather than popularization), and of research in philosophy (rather than the history of ideas). Our aim is to promote free and innovative thought, while remaining faithful, as far as possible, to a dual requirement: -- The formulation and treatment of a philosophical problem, without confusing it with a question of the history of philosophy. The critical examination of an author or a doctrine is not an end in itself, but must serve the instruction of a problem. -- To nourish reflection with the broadest possible cultural background, without which it risks being nothing more than abstract speculation. To think for oneself is not to think alone, and ignorance is not required to be independent-minded. If the deepening of a question inevitably engenders a certain technicality, the magazine is keen to distinguish necessary complexity from useless complication - which is often no more than the dressing up of indigent thought. Invent new concepts when a problem demands it, but banish jargon as much as possible, and aim for simplicity of expression - because it's not necessary to be obscure to be profound.
