Lares (Lares)
Journal Descriptions
«Lares» is a journal of demo-ethno-anthropological studies, founded in 1912 by L. Loria (1912) and subsequently edited by F. Novati (1913–15), P. Toschi (1930–32; 1949–74), E. Bodrero (1933–43), GB Bronzini (1974–2001), V. Di Natale (2002), P. Clemente (2003–17). Since 2018, the editorship has been assumed by Fabio Dei. The journal addresses the anthropological study of contemporary popular cultures, sometimes with collective volumes on individual aspects, but generally dealing with research topics, theoretical issues and critical debates on various aspects of social and cultural life; from the study of material and immaterial heritage to that of cultural consumption, maintaining a strong focus on the method and history of anthropology. Italian ethnography—the study of which Lamberto Loria dedicated the magazine—still lies, in a different way, at the heart of "Lares." The magazine was founded in 1912 by Lamberto Loria. “Lares” is the oldest Italian journal of anthropological studies in existence today. Founded in 1912 by Lamberto Loria (1912), it was directed by Francesco Novati (1913-1915), Paolo Toschi (1930-1932 and 1949-1974), Emilio Bodrero (1933-1943), Giovanni Battista Bronzini (1974-2001), and Vera Di Natale (2002). In 2003, the journal underwent a complete overhaul under the direction of Pietro Clemente, supported by a large editorial team and an international scientific committee. Since 2017, the direction has been assumed by Fabio Dei. Since 1949, “Lares” has been published by the Olschki publishing house of Florence, and is today distributed not only in paperback through sales and subscriptions, but also in digital version through the Casalini publisher’s Torrossa platform, and through the JSTOR database .
