Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Teaching in the Addictions is a peer-reviewed academic journal that focused on education, training, and workforce development in the field of addiction studies. Established in 2002, the journal served as the official publication of the International Coalition for Addiction Studies Education (INCASE). It primarily addressed the pedagogical aspects of addiction counseling and substance abuse education, providing a platform for educators, clinicians, and researchers involved in addiction training programs. The journal published research articles, teaching strategies, curriculum development studies, case-based learning approaches, and evaluations of addiction education models. Its scope included improving the quality of addiction counseling education, enhancing clinical training methods, and strengthening the professional competencies of addiction specialists. Over time, the journal evolved and was later absorbed into broader addiction-focused publications, particularly Substance Abuse, which expanded its coverage to clinical research, policy analysis, and treatment innovations in addiction medicine. Despite its discontinuation, the journal played an important role in shaping academic standards for addiction education and contributed to improving teaching methodologies in this specialized field.
