Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Security Education was a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Haworth Press in the United States from 2004 to 2007. The journal focused on the development and dissemination of educational practices, research, and training methods in the field of security studies. It served as an interdisciplinary platform for scholars, educators, practitioners, and policymakers involved in security education and training. The journal covered a broad range of topics including homeland security education, cybersecurity awareness, criminal justice training, risk assessment education, emergency preparedness, and professional development for security personnel. It also published studies on curriculum design, instructional strategies, and competency-based training models for security-related professions. A major focus of the journal was bridging academic theory with practical training needs in the rapidly evolving security environment following global security challenges in the early 21st century. Articles often addressed how educational institutions could prepare professionals for roles in law enforcement, private security, cybersecurity, and emergency management. Although the journal was discontinued in 2007, its contributions influenced later publications in applied security research and security management education. Its successor journal continued expanding its scope to include broader topics such as cybersecurity, terrorism studies, and security policy analysis, reflecting the evolving nature of global security education.
