Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Nutrition for the Elderly was an international peer-reviewed academic journal focused on nutritional science and dietary health in older adults. Established in 1980, the journal provided an important platform for research on geriatric nutrition, including clinical studies, community nutrition programs, dietary interventions, and aging-related metabolic changes. It addressed the nutritional needs of elderly populations, emphasizing disease prevention, health maintenance, and improvement of quality of life through proper diet and nutritional management. The journal published original research articles, review papers, and case studies relevant to nutritionists, gerontologists, physicians, and healthcare professionals working with aging populations. Topics included malnutrition in older adults, vitamin and mineral requirements, chronic disease management through diet, and institutional feeding practices in hospitals and nursing homes. Published quarterly by Haworth Press Inc., the journal later became part of Taylor & Francis publishing and was eventually continued under the new title Journal of Nutrition in Gerontology and Geriatrics. This transition reflected the expanding interdisciplinary nature of aging research and nutrition science. Although the original title is now discontinued, its contributions remain significant in the field of geriatric nutrition research and continue to influence current studies on healthy aging and elderly care nutrition strategies.
