Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Internet Cataloging was a peer-reviewed academic journal published from 1997 to 2007 by Haworth Press in the United States. It focused on the emerging field of digital information organization, specifically addressing how internet-based resources are classified, cataloged, and accessed in library and information science systems. As the internet expanded rapidly during the late 1990s and early 2000s, the journal played an important role in guiding librarians, information scientists, and digital archivists in managing online resources effectively. The journal published research articles, theoretical discussions, case studies, and practical approaches related to metadata standards, digital cataloging systems, information retrieval, classification techniques, and electronic library services. It also explored challenges associated with organizing web-based content, such as unstable URLs, lack of standardized metadata, and evolving digital library infrastructures. A key contribution of the journal was its focus on bridging traditional library cataloging methods with emerging internet technologies. It supported the development of best practices for organizing digital information resources, which later became foundational in modern library science and digital repository management.
