Journal of Intercollegiate Sport (JIS)
Journal Descriptions
Journal of Intercollegiate Sport (JIS) is an international peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal devoted exclusively to research on sport within college and university settings. Established in 2008, the journal serves as a leading forum for interdisciplinary research examining the complex issues surrounding intercollegiate athletics. It publishes original research articles, theoretical analyses, policy studies, and practitioner-oriented contributions from the social sciences, humanities, professional fields, and sport sciences. The journal welcomes studies addressing topics such as college athlete development, sport governance, leadership, diversity and inclusion, athletic administration, sport business, higher education policy, mental health, and the social impact of collegiate athletics. JIS emphasizes research that has both theoretical significance and practical application for improving policies and practices in college sports. All submissions undergo a rigorous double-anonymous peer-review process to ensure scholarly quality and integrity. Since 2019, the journal has operated as a fully open-access publication under the University of Kansas Libraries, allowing readers worldwide to access its content without subscription fees and authors to publish without article processing charges. Through its interdisciplinary scope and commitment to evidence-based scholarship, JIS contributes significantly to the understanding and advancement of intercollegiate sport in higher education.
