Journal of Industrial Hemp (JIH)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Industrial Hemp was a peer-reviewed scientific journal published from 2002 to 2008, focusing on the agronomy, processing, and industrial applications of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). It was published by Haworth Press in the United States and later managed under the Taylor & Francis publishing group. The journal provided a specialized academic platform for researchers, agronomists, and industry professionals working on hemp as a sustainable agricultural and industrial crop. The journal covered a broad range of topics including hemp cultivation techniques, fiber extraction, seed production, plant genetics, soil management, environmental sustainability, and industrial applications such as textiles, bio-composites, paper production, and bioenergy. It also published studies on regulatory frameworks, economic viability, and environmental impacts of hemp production. A key contribution of the journal was its role in reviving scientific and industrial interest in hemp during the early 2000s, a period when hemp cultivation was re-emerging in several countries after decades of restriction. It provided evidence-based research supporting hemp as a renewable, eco-friendly raw material with multiple commercial applications. Although the journal was discontinued in 2008, its research base continues to influence modern studies in sustainable agriculture, natural fibers, and green industrial materials. Its content has partially transitioned into successor journals focusing on natural fibers and sustainable crop technologies.
