Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Services, originally launched in 2002, is an interdisciplinary academic journal dedicated to research on immigrant populations, refugee experiences, and social service systems supporting displaced communities. The journal primarily focuses on social work, public policy, health services, and community-based interventions that address the needs of migrants and refugees, particularly in the United States and other global contexts. It provides a scholarly platform for empirical research, theoretical discussions, and practice-based studies that examine migration processes, integration challenges, social welfare systems, and legal frameworks affecting immigrant and refugee populations. Over time, the journal evolved and was renamed the Journal of Immigrant & Refugee Studies, expanding its scope to include broader migration governance, refugee protection policies, and comparative international migration research. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles that contribute to understanding social, economic, psychological, and health-related dimensions of migration. It is widely used by researchers, policymakers, social workers, and academics engaged in migration studies. The journal has played an important role in documenting immigrant experiences and improving service delivery models for refugee populations. Today, it continues under its updated title with a broader international focus and is published by Routledge under the Taylor & Francis group, maintaining strong academic visibility in migration and refugee studies.
