Journal Descriptions

The Journal of East African Natural History is published jointly by the East Africa Natural History Society and the National Museums of Kenya. The Journal publishes papers and notes in the field of natural history, broadly defined as the study of organisms in their natural state, relevant to the eastern African region. Of particular interest are contributions that add to our knowledge of the status and conservation of biological diversity in the region. Since the biological landscape is to a large extent shaped by man, papers on ethnobiology will also be considered. Contributions can be substantial articles, short notes and book reviews. The journal publishes original research articles, short communications, and reviews that contribute to understanding species distribution, ecological interactions, and environmental change. It also emphasizes conservation biology, highlighting studies that support the protection of threatened species and habitats. In addition, the journal includes work in ethnobiology, recognizing the role of human communities in shaping ecological systems. Interdisciplinary in nature, the journal integrates insights from zoology, botany, environmental science, and conservation policy. It is widely indexed in major scientific databases such as Biological Abstracts and Zoological Record, making it a valuable resource for researchers and conservation practitioners.
