Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Access Services welcomes submissions of research, theory, and practice papers relevant to access services in libraries and archives of all types. Access Services is the broad field and collective term for all the services that provide, facilitate, and manage clientele access to the information resources acquired or made available by libraries or archives. The goal of Access Services is easy and convenient retrieval and use of needed information, and the greatest availability of resources possible to all user groups. Major responsibilities of Access Services units frequently include, but are not limited to: stacks maintenance, circulation services, document delivery and interlibrary loan, reserve reading collections, building security and maintenance, and user area maintenance. The evolution of technology has led Access Services departments to provide access to both traditional and electronic information resources, regardless of whether they are licensed, or held locally, remotely, or consortially. It demands continuous review of the means for delivering services and the kind of services that should be provided in libraries and information centers.
