Journal Descriptions

In the 21st century, security is being redefined in the political agenda, in expert circles of security management as well as in scientific research. The vulnerability of the highly networked life of modern societies is moving to the centre of security thinking. At its core, it is about determining and understanding the ability of societies to cope with and to endure against crises, hazards and threats. Against this backdrop the European Journal for Security Research provides a comprehensive platform for all the humanities and technological sciences to discuss a wide-range of security research topics.Societal security research merges together considerations on crisis, risks and security from economic, political, ecological, social, legal, natural science, technological, and engineering perspectives. The aim of the journal is to bring these different perspectives into a dialogue; it is characterised by a multi- and cross-disciplinary spirit. It provides a forum for special issues and articles that transcend disciplinary boundaries as well as for well-contextualised disciplinary research on societal security. The focus of the journal is on Europe. However, this is not to be understood exclusively in a geographical meaning, but also as a thematic perspective. The journal equally addresses the contextualisation or implementation of specifically European security considerations and security architecture ̶ ̶ such as legal provisions, organisational or technical innovations ̶ ̶ in other regions of the world. By publishing wholly original articles from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, the European Journal for Security Research offers a uniquely European forum for debate on social security developments and how they are transforming our world. Articles for consideration should be lodged electronically via the submission system and should, as a rule, not exceed 8500 words.
