Contemporary Journal of African Studies (CJAS)
Journal Descriptions
Contemporary Journal of African Studies (CJAS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana. The journal was officially launched under its current title in 2012, although it originated from the earlier publication Research Review, which dates back to 1969. CJAS aims to provide a scholarly platform for researchers and academics to present high-quality research on Africa and the African diaspora. The journal publishes interdisciplinary research covering various fields within African Studies, including politics, history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, language, development studies, and social change. Its main objective is to promote knowledge production from an African-centered perspective while contributing to global scholarly discussions on Africa’s contemporary issues. CJAS welcomes original research articles, research notes, book reviews, and review essays that explore social, political, economic, and cultural dynamics within Africa and its global connections. All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure academic quality, originality, and relevance. The journal also encourages contributions that revisit earlier research findings and provide new interpretations or insights into African societies and institutions. As an academic platform, CJAS supports the dissemination of innovative research that advances understanding of African realities and promotes scholarly dialogue among researchers, students, and policy experts worldwide.
