Climate of the Past (CP)

Climate of the Past is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal that focuses on the reconstruction and understanding of Earth’s past climate. The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, and methodological studies that investigate climate variability on timescales ranging from decades to millions of years. It emphasizes the use of paleoclimate data derived from natural archives such as ice cores, marine and lake sediments, tree rings, speleothems, corals, and other geological and biological proxies. The journal integrates data-driven reconstructions with climate modeling to better understand past climate dynamics, including glacial–interglacial cycles, abrupt climate events, monsoon variability, and long-term atmospheric and oceanic changes. Established in 2005, Climate of the Past is published by the European Geosciences Union (EGU) in collaboration with Copernicus Publications. It follows a fully open-access model, allowing free global access to all published articles. The journal is well indexed in major databases such as Scopus and Web of Science (SCI/SCIE) and is considered a reputable journal in the geosciences field.
