Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences (BJBMS) was an international, peer-reviewed, English-language open-access journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research in the basic medical sciences. Founded in 2004, the journal was established to promote scientific research and academic communication in medicine and related biomedical disciplines. Although publication was interrupted after the first issue, regular publication resumed in 2002 and the journal subsequently developed into one of the most recognized biomedical journals in Southeast Europe. The journal published original research articles, reviews, short communications, and methodological papers covering a broad spectrum of biomedical sciences. Major areas of interest included biochemistry, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, and other fields relevant to experimental and translational medicine. BJBMS emphasized scientific rigor, innovation, and international collaboration while providing a platform for researchers from both developed and emerging scientific communities. The journal achieved international visibility through indexing in major databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, PubMed Central, Scopus, and Web of Science. Its increasing impact and global reach eventually led to its rebranding in 2023 as Biomolecules and Biomedicine, reflecting a broader multidisciplinary biomedical scope.
